Arup’s Toronto office is adding staff to support a wide range of projects in the built environment.

We seek creative self-initiating problem-solvers, able to work as part of a team and independently, applying a wide range of communications and analytical skills to design and consulting projects.

Responsibilities You will contribute to and manage several concurrent projects pertaining to: design and assessment of new urban energy systems – including microgrids, district thermal energy systems, energy storage (hydrogen, battery, thermal), ; analysis of zero emission fleet conversion; assessment of built environment CO2 emissions; management of junior staff assessing and benchmarking of buildings, portfolios, campuses, and cities; and integrated systems planning – energy, transportation, water, materials.

The role will challenge you to work across interdisciplinary teams with a wide range of client types in the public and private sector.

The role seeks an individual with a strong combination of technical, strategic, and management thinking as well as effective communication skills across mediums.

On a daily basis you might develop spreadsheet or coding-based analyses, contribute to the design of energy/water/waste systems, lead energy strategy workshops, source energy & resource efficiency ideas, identify and analyze alternatives, prepare written and graphical summaries of work for clients, present on process and findings to technical and non-technical audiences, attend client meetings, and assist with or lead proposals.

Your experience and capability will determine the breadth of your responsibility.

Experience You should have demonstrated experience in at least three of the following areas: Community or campus energy engineering, distributed or centralized (including district thermal energy system, electric vehicles, and microgrids); Energy & resource use analysis, including the use of specialized energy simulation software for the built environment Cost & benefit analysis over a project life cycle to support decision-making; Assessment and estimation of energy & resource efficiency potential; Integrated systems planning; energy, transportation, water, waste, materials; Analysis of carbon emissions, preferentially based on the greenhouse gas protocol (WRI or CAR); Energy codes and standards development and implementation; Experience with project budgeting, cost tracking, and interdisciplinary team management; Understanding of statistics and energy forecasting Skills You should have the unique combination of interpersonal and analytical skill that will make you a leader in our team from the day you arrive.

Specifically, you should be able to demonstrate the following: Outstanding leadership and communication skills, including writing, presenting, and workshop leading Outstanding skills in integrated analytical problem solving Superior ability in the use of the following software: the full MS Office suite, specialized software & protocols Strong understanding of energy, water, waste and resource technologies Strong familiarity with triple bottom line cost-effectiveness thinking and analysis Strong knowledge of policy and economic issues related to electrification and decarbonization Strong multi-tasking and project management skills Benefits that Work
