Operations Manager

Job Description Reporting to the Director, Operations, the Manager, Operations will be responsible for the quality and overall execution of dedicated construction projects.

This role will oversee the project team including Project Directors, Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, Field Manager, Regional Safety Managers, QA/QC and Specialties Managers.

This position is based in the Richmond, BC office and some travel may be required.

Responsibilities Leadership Support a corporate culture that encompasses the highest ethical standards and is aligned with the corporation’s core values.

Assist in the hiring of new talent and support the development of personnel through on-going coaching and mentoring.

Interface with the Regional Vice President, Director of Operations and Director, Business Development to ensure adequate and timely staffing of labour resources.

Conduct annual performance reviews of all direct reports, and ensure annual reviews are conducted with all staff.

Construction Management Provide input and guidance to both proposal and project teams in the pursuit and delivery of all projects in the region.

Manage the Profit & Loss Reporting (P&L) process in strict accordance with the Operations Manual.

Conduct a thorough review of each project’s profitability report and review with assigned staff to satisfy the technical adequacy and reported profitability for the jobs prior to submission of the P&L to the Executive Office.

Continuously improve project delivery services to ensure that the group leads the industry and exceeds client, consultant and trade expectations, is on or ahead of schedule, addresses constructability, and is recognized and rewarded for value added: Participate in the pre-planning and bid process, provide technical expertise on construction techniques.

Provide guidance for field construction as required including the oversight and approval of the technical plan and work schedule.

Conduct monthly project health audits in alignment with the regional business plan and Project Controls delivery manual.

Conduct regular visits to the project sites of all jobs to verify status of the project.

Review aspects of safety, quality, schedule, co-ordination, and client satisfaction.

Conduct informal discussions with construction teams for project status updates.

Monitor, assess and make adjustments for improving self-performed work including productivity and profitability.

Review all prime and sub-trade contracts as designated.

Maintain an effective quality assurance/quality control program as per the corporate standards.

Support and execute risk management processes and strategies with respect to contracts and project execution.

Be aware of all legal, insurance, lien and claim issues that manifest in the District and advise the Director, Operations of same.

Take personal control of these items and aggressively manage them to completion, consulting with the Director, Operations where necessary.

Maintain OH&S standards for the district, ensuring HSE practices meet or exceed the requirements of the Safety Program, and client/project-specific requirements.

Strategic Planning Partner with the Regional Management Team, support the development of new market initiatives and business opportunities based on the best use of the regional resources/assets and current trends in the industry and the competitive landscape.

Business Development Assist the Regional Vice President, Director, Operations and Director, Business Development in establishing and maintaining strategic relations with customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders including governments and the public.

Qualifications Undergraduate degree in engineering or construction management 20 years’ experience in construction industry 5 years’ experience in a leadership role Track record of successful project management of major building construction projects in excess of $50 million Deep expertise and proven track record with respect to the continuous improvement project delivery services and value-added constructability process and practice Ability to lead and operate within an environment where change happens frequently Commitment to hiring, mentoring, training, and retaining a focused team; the foresight and ability to delegate accordingly Strong leadership capability as evidenced by demonstrable success in team / collaborative work environments Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships with multiple groups Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities; capable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment Ability to work within tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them Strong analytical, critical thinking, troubleshooting, problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail Highly developed interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills Sense of urgency and strong commitment to achieving goals; ability to work in challenging, fast paced environment Ability to work collaboratively with a positive attitude Superior written and verbal communication skills About Us Safety, sustainability, collaboration, and integrity are core company values that encourage innovation and make a lasting difference in meeting the goals of our stakeholders and the communities in which we operate.
