Please include a cover letter with your application What You’ll Be Doing The Executive Director, Economics is responsible for undertaking economic analysis and forecasts with a focus on their implications for financial markets, and delivering our findings to external and internal clients in written reports, presentations, conference speeches and media appearances.

Reporting to the Chief Economist, this position works closely with other members of CIBC’s award-winning economic team, as well as with those in allied research groups, including equity research and our fixed income and foreign exchange strategists.

Clients for our economics research and forecasts include portfolio managers, corporate executives, government finance ministers, and CIBC’s senior management.

How You’ll Succeed Make presentations to external audiences on economic issues, including meetings with individual clients and presentations at CIBC conferences; Monitor, analyze and prepare forecasts for the Canadian, US and global economies, federal and provincial fiscal outlooks and capital markets ; Oversee the thematic research and tactical trade ideas to our institutional clients as well as our sales and trading organization.

Make presentations to CIBC executives and officers on the economic outlook and its implications for capital markets (interest rates, exchange rates, equity markets, credit conditions); Manage the press releases of CIBC economics research in conjunction with Communications and Public Affairs); Prepare and deliver speeches and talks for various associations, trade groups and client organizations (e.g., Toronto Real Estate Forum, Society of Financial Analysts), generally at the request of a CIBC account representative; Contribute to and manage the writing of key economics research publications (Economic Insights, Forecast, Provincial Budget Briefs, The Week Ahead, Monthly FX Outlook).

Contribute to other CIBC publications (e.g.

from equity research, fixed income strategy, retail banking).

Liaise with other areas of CIBC (e.g.

Corporate Communications) to complement the Bank’s public relations efforts; Assist in briefing senior executives for presentations and external meetings (in conjunction with Government Relations); Who You Are Exceptional knowledge of Economics generally attained at post-graduate level, and an excellent general knowledge of current economic issues Several years of work experience in an economics research role.

Those with fewer years of experience will be considered for a Director role; Good oral communication skills are required both for the number of formal and impromptu presentations, and for the extensive discussions and complex debates required in producing forecasts; Written communication skills, including the ability to edit technical material, are important for the volume of reports produced by Economics; General knowledge of the CIBC and banking, sufficient to (a) interpret economic and political developments in terms of their implications for the Bank, (b) consider the sensitivity of various issues (and commentaries) in protecting the CIBC public image (i.e.

when giving press interviews or in approving written publications).
