Role Summary:

Our Insurance Distribution (CSF Channel) team is responsible for bringing a renewed focus to our core insurance business, by working with our Career Sales Force (CSF) to optimize Sun Life Financial manufactured insurance sales and advisor productivity in alignment with Career Sales Force and manufacturing objectives and sales targets.

The Director, Insurance Distribution (CSF Channel) will provide day to day leadership for the team of Insurance Sales Directors who work with advisors and managers in the Career Sales Force, ensuring we deliver on our mission, which is to be instrumental in the growth of insurance sales of the CSF. The Director will work closely with the AVP, Insurance Distribution (CSF Channel) to identify opportunities for growth through the efforts of the Insurance Sales Directors, and to ensure the team is being utilized in the most effective manner to deliver on those opportunities.

The Insurance Sales Director team focuses primarily on the growth of the large case business of the CSF by working with advisors and managers to increase their confidence and capability to capitalize on opportunities in that large case market. This is achieved by maintaining and strengthening existing relationships and establishing new relationships within the Career Sales Force, through presentations to develop additional knowledge on products and sales strategies, and also through individual case consultation and preparation.

Key accountabilities:

  • Day to day leadership of the team of Insurance Sales Directors
  • Recruiting, training, managing and mentoring of Insurance Sales Directors
  • Participate as a member of the Insurance Distribution (CSF Channel) leadership team
  • In partnership with the Insurance Distribution (CSF Channel) leadership team, develop annual business plans for the Insurance Distribution team
  • Manage the development and execution of marketing plans by the Insurance Sales Director team to support the growth of large case insurance sales in their respective territories
  • Support complex insurance case opportunities as necessary
  • Trouble shoot with underwriting, issue and product teams on large case
  • Contribute to the successful achievement of CSF sales results, by build relationships with CSF Sales Management and Advisors
  • Ensure all sales development activities are conducted within approved Sun Life Financial policies, procedures and guidelines and in compliance with all external regulations
  • Monitor team expenses to ensure they are maintained within the budget provided

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate university degree or college diploma
  • 10+ years of life insurance industry experience
  • Attained at least one of CFP, CLU or CHS designations, and working towards others
  • Proven track record of sales success
  • Expert understanding of the sales process
  • In-depth knowledge of the financial service industry and the competitive marketplace (products, market positioning)
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Excellent understanding of case design methodology
  • Good understanding of tax and estate planning
  • Good understanding of underwriting requirements and procedures
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong relationship management skills with a drive for results

    Assets:

  • Experience working directly as part of a wholesaling team
  • Experience working with a Career Sales Force
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Highly developed priority management skills
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with products offered by Sun Life
  • Comfortable with technology

  • Extensive travel may be required
