This is a Full-time position in Toronto, ON posted November 6, 2018.

As a member of the Reinsurance & Exposure Management Team, this role will support the delivery of underwriting risk management, governance, and improvement across the Canadian portfolios, direct or intermediated, personal and commercial. Ensuring the insurance risks across the Canadian business are identified, managed, measured, monitored, and reported specifically as relevant to exposure and accumulation management thereby supporting long-term profitable growth of the Canadian business.

What you will achieve in this role

• Leadership of the development of innovative, creative, business relevant exposure and accumulation management tools, practices and processes for benefit Canada wide.
• Development of accumulation management capability across the Personal and Commercial portfolios at portfolio and per risk levels in accordance with RSA Group best practices.
• Minimize unplanned accumulated losses.
• Use advanced data analysis and manipulation, provide insight and dynamics of exposure shift through time and the actual and potential consequential impacts upon the Canadian portfolios with recommendations for action.
• Drive opportunities for business growth informed through exposure analysis.
• Provide insight and early warning to Senior Management and the Executive of exposure accumulation outside of appetite with recommendations for risk mitigation.
• Provide regular accumulation management reporting and recommendations for action to key stakeholder groups including the Canadian and Group Executive.
• Upon request, deliver exposure profiling in response to anticipated or actual events or scenarios.
• Support the Reinsurance function as requested through provisions of exposure and accumulation insight.
• Leverage Insurance Risk expertise across other Regions and Group specifically as it relates to exposure and accumulation management.
• Share knowledge as subject matter expert for benefit of the Canadian business and the wider RSA Group.
• Leverage learnings from industry and market in relation to catastrophe modelling, exposure and accumulation management.
• Support transition, integration of acquisitions, entrance into new markets, new areas of existing markets, and the development of business cases.
• Identify emerging trends and issues, analyze impact, and challenge current thinking and provide recommendations for change.
• Provide insight into potential emerging insurance risks including identification and understanding of their likelihood, impact, and mitigating actions.

What you bring to this role

• 10+ years of insurance experience, including roles within Actuarial, Underwriting, Claims and/or Risk functions.
• Post-secondary education in GIS or 5+ years of experience with GIS tools, including the creation and maintenance of various geographic datasets and analytic processes (familiarity with Esri suite of products is desirable).
• Ability to support and promote use of GIS throughout the business, including the development of new tools and processes in response to business requirements and provision of appropriate training.
• Advanced knowledge of principles, techniques, current trends, best practices, laws, policies and programs related to risk management, and commercial insurance.
• Advanced knowledge of case and/or portfolio underwriting.
• Ability to exercise discretion in dealing with confidential/sensitive information and issues.
• Very strong influencing skills within a matrix structure.
• Ability to challenge the status quo and influence others to follow a course of action or support a way of thinking that may have an impact at a corporate level.
• Provision of risk consultation at a corporate level.
• Ability to plan own work deliverables impacting a large number of clients.
• Demonstrated expertise in advanced investigative and analysis techniques.
• Ability to develop creative solutions to complex issues that have an impact across large areas of the business.
• Provide analytical support for all tactical and ad hoc initiatives and manage projects as required.
• High capacity for understanding and managing multiple complex and potentially unrelated issues at the same time.
• Very strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills in order to articulate ideas, issues, and make recommendations to various stakeholders and cross functional teams.
• Results oriented with the ability to prioritize tasks and responsibilities.
• Willingness to travel across Canada and potentially other RSA regions

Other Information

This is a permanent, full-time position that will be based out of the Toronto, Ontario, Canada office.

The salary for this position will be commensurate with experience and will range from CAD $70,000.00 to $85,000.00. The position is eligible for an annual bonus between 0% to 24% of regular earnings, based on financial and performance metrics. The position also offers health and dental plan insurance benefits and 4 weeks of vacation time.
