Director, Product

AGF Management

This is a Contract position in Toronto, ON posted May 6, 2018.

The Director, Product will be primarily responsible for managing and developing the product requirements of AGF Investments product suite (including pooled funds and managed assets), which supports all lines of business (Retail and Strategic Accounts and the Institutional sales team).

As owner of the product line up, the Director will routinely provide product reviews to the Sales team.

Collaborating with the Portfolio Specialist Group (PSG) and the Product Team, the Director will assess the performance, profile, positioning and competitive landscape of key products.

As lead of new product development initiatives, the Director will manage internal business partner dependencies in order to plan and deliver new products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct accountability for both product management and new product development initiatives for a number of product lines managed by AGF, and its affiliates
  • Deliver best in class Product Management support for existing products to the Sales teams, providing clear direction for research and analytics requirements (both scheduled & ad hoc)
  • Effective alignment and utilization of resources to support all line of business with clear operational accountability
  • Implement the strategic goals surrounding the ongoing development of the AGF product line to ensure the overall performance of the business, including product origination through to launch
  • Manage the day-to-day relationship with the Sales Teams and other internal stakeholders to ensure that business strategies, priorities, and expectations are aligned
  • Act as a subject matter expert on ad hoc projects as required
  • Using your abilities to understand complex investment issues, provide detailed product analysis with a goal of bringing new and innovative product development ideas forward
  • Provide input into the setting of priorities within the Product group through the presentation of insights and conclusions
  • Analysis of existing competitor products, competitive product developments and opportunities in markets both inside and outside of Canada


  • Undergraduate degree required
  • MBA and/or CFA charter or other professional designations (ex. CIM, FCSI, CIMA) would be desirable
  • Minimum 7 years of investment industry/ institutional investment experience
  • Knowledge of investment products in Canada required and a working knowledge of competing global products
  • Ability to form and cultivate inter-departmental working relationships and ability to interact with peers, salespeople, executives
  • Past leadership experience
  • Ability to work independently, under tight time deadlines, with strict attention to detail
  • Strong organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills are critical
  • Past project management experience or involvement an asset
  • Strong research and analytical skills is critical to success in the role
  • Leadership skills, strong people manager and resource manager
  • Excellent communication and business writing skills – presentation, writing, editing, proofreading
  • Working knowledge of portfolio theory, and a passion for investment management
  • Client centric

    – able to add value to business partner relationships
