Shift

This is a Full-time position in Toronto, ON posted June 11, 2019.

About SHIFT At SHIFT, we are making work better, everywhere, for everyone, by enabling leaders and team members to have powerful conversations enabled by simple digital tools.

SHIFT’s tools allow managers and team members to cultivate great cultures simply and at scale by focusing on helping teams work better and thrive together.

SHIFT started 18 months ago, received venture funding and is now growing quickly.

This is an incredibly unique opportunity to join a high growth company at the earliest stages to help us scale.

You will be learning from a seasoned team, make significant contributions from day 1, have ample opportunity for growth and advancement and most importantly, make a difference to many individuals with our powerful products.

In less than a year, SHIFT has been used by hundreds of teams and by over two dozen publicly traded companies including Dow DuPont, Zendesk, Mozilla, DocuSign, Dolby, McKinsey & Company and many others.

The Role You will help shape the conversations that tens of thousands of people at the world’s premier companies are having around talent and culture.

You will use and build your subject matter expertise in people and talent to ‘productize’ the best research and advice on creating top teams and culture from academics, authors and coaches.

You will work closely with our Client Solutions team to gain a deep understanding of our clients and our Product team to embed your talent and culture wisdom into our product.

Our clients are Fortune 500 companies undergoing massive transformation programs and we support them from inception to execution.

Our key client stakeholders are: (1) the Chief Transformation/People Officer, who needs to understand and appreciate how SHIFT’s tools will help them achieve their goals and (2) the managers and teams, who are the hands-on users of our products.

Our tools empower our clients to achieve at-scale change by reaching thousands of managers, teams and individuals in an efficient, effective way.

Our key outcome is that any manager can successfully run the conversations that our digital tools enable so that their employees understand and adopt the key parts of their talent goals or culture change program.

The Details You’ll create copy and resources to guide managers through the journey of using our tools to diagnose their teams and advise on improvements, with the goal of making that manager’s journey as painless as possible.

This will involve things like: Research key insights and practices to achieve specific team or personal outcomes related to team health, culture and talent Create guidance for interpreting and acting on the results of diagnostic exercises Synthesize and simplify processes run by coaches into the key steps and advice an individual would need to do Write copy on many parts of our app to accompany a manager on their improvement journey Build mini-training programs for managers and culture change champions Two example problems we’re facing right now that you’d help solve: We have a lightweight 360 feedback tool that focuses on 16 key leadership traits.

Our users want advice on how to improve and what next steps to take based on their results.

You’ll initially make generally applicable content to understand the results and actions to take to improve on key areas.

Over time you’ll make “smart advice” that takes into account the mix of responses the user got, the personality traits they have and the type of team they are on (e.g., you’ll give an extroverted researcher good at setting vision but struggling with empowerment different advice than an introverted marketer good at listening but struggling with the same empowerment problem).

We have teams that rate their 1 problem as ineffective meetings.

You’ll first help create the right diagnostic questions to figure out why their meetings are this way.

You’ll then build up mini digital & real world programs for a team to improve their meetings.

You We understand that you’ll have a unique background but expect that you will know a lot about: On the job behavior change (in practice not in theory) Leadership, talent and high performing individuals and teams We bet you’ll have read and loved books like: Robert Kegan’s Deliberately Developmental Organizations, Stanley McChrystal’s Team of Teams, Ram Charan’s Leadership Pipeline, Stone & Heen’s Thanks for the Feedback, etc.

You will also: Be capable of both engineering style analytical thinking and personal coaching (e.g., you’ll be able to create a flow chart about mindsets of a manager combined with their personality style to recommend an approach to a problem) Be amazing at synthesizing and simplifying complex concepts into what really matters and is immediately actionable.

Be capable of quickly researching new topics to identify the key insights (topics like increasing agility in companies, helping employees give more feedback, running effective meetings, driving culture change at scale in a company).
