Job Description

We provide integrated Capital Markets products, investment banking advisory services, corporate lending and top-ranked research to corporate, government and institutional clients around the world. Our goal is to be the leading Capital Markets franchise in Canada and the lead relationship bank for key clients globally.

A division of CIBC Equity Markets, the Prime Services Group, delivers a suite of wholesale financing solutions and associated services to asset manager and broker dealer clients to meet the regulatory and risk-based leverage needs of today’s most sophisticated institutional investors across multiple asset classes.

What you’ll be doing:

As the Executive Director, you will work on the Sales desk within the Prime Brokerage team and be responsible for selling to and on-boarding net new clients as well as growing market share and profitability with current clients. You will mainly be responsible for relationship management, client satisfaction, cross-selling, and organizing & executing a Capital Introduction plan.

How you’ll succeed:

  • Business development responsibility to drive revenue for margin financing and securities lending with large and mid-sized Canadian alternative asset managers

  • Ensure a market competitive Prime Brokerage platform that is reflective of CIBC’s risk appetites and client satisfaction

  • Implement best practice client coverage which includes:

    • Know Your Customer (KYC), deep understanding of client strategies

    • Ability to work in high paced and stressful environment

    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage a variety of personality types

    • Involvement in ad hoc projects for new processes or industry initiatives

    • Strong LOB product and market knowledge not only within Prime brokerage, but other LOBs.

  • Optimize operational process flows, ability to identify new avenues for improvement

  • Deep knowledge of IIROC’s margin ruleset including complex hedging strategies

  • Client onboarding – working with both clients and associated internal groups

  • Liaise with other Capital Markets businesses including, Trading, Global Collateral Finance, Risk, Credit, Operations and Equity Derivatives

  • Maintain senior level relations with industry vendors, legal teams, and other alternative organizations in Canada

Who you are:

  • Entrepreneurial focus & passion for the Canadian alternative asset manager landscape

  • 10+ years progressive industry experience; capital markets, prime brokerage, trading floor experience are an asset

  • Thorough knowledge of prime brokerage including margin rules, brokerage finance, equity finance

  • Developed knowledge of the business and the ability to clearly communicate emerging issues and proposed solutions

  • Comprehensive understanding of elements of profitability, risk and cost control

  • Ability to establish key processes that are not necessarily well defined, initiate design and development where no processes exist and make improvements and refinements where process efficiency and effectiveness opportunities exist

  • Self-motivated and ability to work on their own; knowing when to escalate when needed

  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills in order to develop, manage and leverage relationships with clients, internal and/or external business partners

  • Advanced skills in MS Excel

  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
