Location: Toronto, Ontario


We are seeking a mid-level Business Writer to join our friendly team. Reporting to the Director of Client Communications and Development, and working closely with senior members of the Marketing Department, the Business Writer will be responsible for a variety of communications and business development initiatives. Core responsibilities will include writing proposal and business development documents, and writing and proofreading internal and external communications. Responsibilities will also include writing marketing/promotional content, project managing communications and marketing initiatives and assisting with the firm’s public relations, media and advertising programs. We are looking for a confident, knowledgeable writer with a strong understanding of business development principles and professional services.



Proposals, Business Development and Directories

  • Work with team members and lawyers on strategy and preparing proposal and business development documents, including re-purposing existing content or writing new content
  • Previous work experience within a Law Firm
  • Ensure all RFP deadlines are metLiaise with graphic designer to develop an eye-pleasing product
  • Maintain RFP-related content and tracking tools
  • Assist with submissions to directories and ranking organizations
  • Prepare firm profile and lawyer biographies for inclusion in legal directories
  • Contribute to external communications related to recognitions, including website and social media content


Write, edit and oversee the production of marketing and communications materials, which could include brochures, invitations, lawyer biographies or web contentUpdate the website as requiredCompose and proofread internal communications materialRespond to communications requests from lawyers


  • Assorted communications, business development and administrative tasks, and other duties as required
  • Previous legal experience is a must


  • Post-secondary degree, preferably in Communications, Marketing, the Humanities, Business, Public Relations or Journalism
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a marketing, communications or business development role with significant writing responsibilities, in a legal services firm
  • Superior writing, proofreading, editing and communications skills
  • Must have a high degree of poise and professionalism and be comfortable dealing with senior personnel in a tactful manner
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage projects and work independently
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Customer service mindsetDetail-oriented and able to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)Exposure to InDesign and VutureVX is an asset
  • Experience with and interest in social media/media relations is an asset
  • An understanding of website content management systems is an asset
  • Ability to work occasional overtime
