Job Description

Title: Supplier Quality Assurance Manager

Location: Winnipeg, MB

Term: Full Time Permanent

PLEASE NOTE that we are looking for someone with a strong background in Quality.

The candidate MUST HAVE:

  • Previous experience managing a team of 10+ people
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment (ideally from an equipment manufacturing or product assembly manufacturing environment that has a mix of electrical/mechanical components)
  • Good leadership qualities and strong time management skills.
  • Be willing to working in Winnipeg, MB long term


The SQA Manager is responsible for leading the SQA Department to ensure incoming materials meet all specified product requirements and that department activities are consistent with business requirements. This role is accountable for developing, evaluating and continuously improving supplier quality assurance systems to meet our business needs, as well as for proposing and implementing new ideas and processes with a commitment to achieving further success. Key importance in this role is developing strong partnerships with external vendors and working closely with internal customers to proactively resolve quality issues in a productive and team approach. In addition to being responsible for supplier quality coming in to the factory this role will lead the Advanced Quality Planning team, responsible for ensuring we are prepared for changes through managing the QMS system and other internal processes related to quality and production.


  • Provide leadership and manage the overall performance of department staff to meet objectives and continuously improve department’s performance
  • Develop, establish, implement and maintain supplier quality assurance system by analyzing, re-engineering and improving existing systems to ensure quality of all purchased products both internally and externally manufactured
  • Establish, implement and maintain a system for evaluating supplier performance for rejection rates of parts; audits of first articles; and vendor performance rating system.
  • Manage the qualification of processes performed by suppliers
  • Co-ordinate supplier quality control inspections, corrective procedures and root cause investigations throughout the organization and translate results into best practices or continuous improvements
  • Identify the need for supplier audits and schedule staff to perform those audits, developing relationships with the customers and the Supplier Development Engineering Team.
  • Provide guidance and approval regarding audit strategies and approaches
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain, Engineering, and other areas as required, on the selection of new vendors; develop strong partnerships with new vendors in the development, implementation and evaluation of the new vendors current processes
  • Ensure department is in compliance with various internal policies and practices
  • Maintain ISO 9001 registration
  • Develop Quality strategies for new product developments, ensuring quality control systems are in place prior to product launch.


  • B. Sc. Engineering – Mechanical/Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering Technologist Diploma or related combination of education and/or experience (engineering/quality is a definite asset).
  • Quality Certification (ISO or ASQ, etc.) mandatory
  • 5+ years’ experience working within a manufacturing environment, preferably in the transportation, automotive, heavy equipment or bus industry
  • Strong business acumen, and proven leadership skills and the ability to motivate a team
  • Well-developed influencing, coaching and facilitation skills in order to interact effectively at all levels of an organization
  • Profound listener with effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven organizational skills, solid problem solver with strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety
  • Strong understanding of lean manufacturing and 5S processes
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio)
