Senior QE Automation Engineer


This is a Full-time position in Toronto, ON posted November 12, 2018.

What is the opportunity?

As the Sr. QE Automation Engineer at RBC, Contact Centre Technology (CCT), you will lead the design and implementation of our QE Automation testing strategy.  You will be working with a high performing team of practicing experts  to build advanced test suites, create new test harnesses, automate testing and create innovative automated test systems to validate the functional correctness of our software, as well as their interaction with other systems and infrastructure. The successful candidate must have a technical development background with Developer level experience creating automation with various automation frameworks.


What will you do?

  • Identify automation test requirements for projects and determine ROI based on technology and architecture
  • Design, develop, and implement automated testing and tooling solutions
  • Enhance, extend, and maintain test automation libraries and frameworks
  • Define and promote test automation best practices, standards, and processes
  • Continuously develop and improve test strategies
  • Provide test automation estimates and timelines for assigned projects
  • Participate in continuous integration, release, and build management
  • Coordinate and manage automated testing efforts for concurrent projects
  • Review technical design documents and understand how the design will be used in the code development process
  • Evaluate testing tools to be used for automated testing and execute proof of concepts
  • Create and maintain data sets to be used in test automation activities


What do you need to succeed?


  • Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related (technical) degree/diploma
  •  4 -7 years of software development programming experience
  • Hands-on expertise in a variety of test automation frameworks/tools (e.g., HP LeanFT, Robot, TestNG, SoapUI, ReadyAPI), and script development using scripting languages (e.g., Perl, Python)
  • Hands-on programming experience (e.g., Java, C, C++, C#, SQL DB querying) and source configuration tools (eg. GIT, SVN, MKS, etc.)
  • Experience in developing microservices and APIs to enable integration of applications or orchestrate automated build / test capabilities
  • Experience in a QA/test environment with a focus on technical, automated testing in a variety of environments (e.g. distributed, cloud and mainframe, business workflows and services/APIs, databases)
  • Solid understanding of QA processes, approaches, methodologies and the software development lifecycle (eg.Agile and Iterative Waterfall)
  • Experience testing complex, multi-tiered web-based systems and complex data-driven applications
  • Excellent debugging, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and highly developed communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Creative and analytical thinker who is self-driven and capable of working in a fast-paced environment



  • Strong business Domain knowledge with Contact Centre operations and technologies
  • Knowledge of Genesys Framework and/or Routing Design
  • Experience with DevOps tools (e.g. Jenkins, Urban Code Deployment, Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
  • Experience with non-functional testing (performance, UI/UX, Accessibility, etc.)
  • Certifications: ISTQB
