Job Description

Given the current circumstances, employee will be working from home, 100% of time. As working conditions return to normal, they will shift to a hybrid working arrangement.

Current work authorization for Canada is required for all openings.

Who We Are

Established in 1987, Fidelity Investments Canada Inc. (FIC), provides Canadian investors with a full range of mutual funds, ETFs and alternative funds. Fidelity funds are available through a number of advice-based distribution channels, including financial planners, investment dealers, banks and insurance companies.

FIC manages over $168 billion (CAD) in mutual fund and institutional assets, as at December 15, 2020. This includes $41 billion in assets for institutional clients, including public and corporate-defined benefit pension plans, endowments, foundations and corporate assets on behalf of clients across Canada.

The Investment Management team focuses on research analysis and delivering strong returns, and is comprised of portfolio managers, research analysts, traders and more.

FIC has more than 1000 full time employees and is headquartered in Toronto, with regional offices in Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver.

Business Overview

The Project Governance Office (PGO) manages the portfolio of projects for Fidelity Investments Canada (FIC), focusing on prioritization efforts in order to meet FIC’s regulatory obligations and strategic business development, and ensure adequate capacity planning for IT and Business resources. PGO applies Project Managers’ expertise to oversee and monitor projects in a fast-paced environment from initiation to implementation and closeout, ensuring time to market timelines and disciplined adherence to projects’ business objectives, budget and risk controls. The PGO is also responsible for the Post Implementation Assessment and monitoring benefits realization of initiatives within the organization.

What You Will Do

You will lead teams within a complex matrix environment to successfully complete projects in support of multiple business lines. You will work closely with FIC business units and external groups to plan, coordinate and manage all aspects of a project life cycle from beginning to end. 

Projects may be small to medium in size; cross-functional in impact and are typically technical in nature. You will be accountable for planning and executing projects by:

  • Developing a project plan with milestones
  • Identifying resources required
  • Assembling the team and assigning duties to team members
  • Understanding the scope of complexities within a project
  • Composing a project budget
  • Directing and managing of day to day assigned tasks
  • Managing vendor and client relationships as required
  • Adhering to Fidelity project management best practices

The Value You Deliver

  • Prepare project charter and develop detailed project plans including detailed scope statements schedule and budget estimates and baselines, resource plans, quality plans and success criteria
  • Establish project communications and monitoring and control mechanisms, in particular project change management approaches, to ensure the project's triple constraints (time, cost, performance: scope and quality) are well managed, and status and issues are reported to sponsors, executive sponsors, PGO and senior management on a timely basis
  • Manage day to day project activities ensuring deliverables are met, risks are identified and
    assessed, and issues are managed and resolved.
  • Lead project team(s) in a matrix environment, clarifying roles and responsibilities, providing individual direction and feedback and ensuring required communication support is in place.
  • Partner with the PGO to ensure portfolio, program and project management standards, processes and procedures are adhered to.
  • Implement and utilize reporting and control mechanisms, and in particular project change
    management approaches, to ensure the project's triple constraints (time, cost, performance: scope and quality) are well managed, and status and issues are reported to sponsors, executive sponsors and senior management on a timely basis.
  • Ensure project post implementation reviews are planned and executed in compliance with Fidelity standards
  • Work with vendors, industry firms and Fidelity business units to explore innovative business solutions with new technologies and alternative processes

What We’re Looking For

  • University Degree / College or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience leading/managing projects ideally in an information technology environment
  • 2 years’ experience in the Mutual Fund industry is an asset
  • PMP certification is an asset
  • Experience in managing technology projects with third parties is an asset
  • Experience with Salesforce is an asset

The Skills You Bring

  • Experience in managing PMLC, complex business and technology projects, including work with 3rd party vendors
  • Systems development methodologies, standards, tools and technique
  • Project management and development methodologies, practices/standards, tools and techniques
  • Microsoft desktop productivity applications, including MS Project
  • Experience in the Mutual fund industry and systems (front and back end systems, registered funds, pensions, etc.) is an asset
  • Experience with corporate technology systems (Corporate Finance, HR, Compliance) is an asset
  • Ability to understand and communicate the broader picture to all stakeholders and demonstrate an understanding of stakeholder interests (both business and technical)
  • Excellent communication, presetting to steering committees, leadership, facilitation, negotiation, influence and customer relationship management skills
  • Excellent time management and resource management skills
