Legal Counsel Contracts

Job Description

Position Description
Reporting to the Director, Procurement and Senior Legal Counsel , the Legal Counsel – Contracts drafts, reviews, negotiates, and manages various contracts, including the interpretation of such contracts and the implementation of amendments. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Independently draft, review, negotiate, and manage a variety of agreements.
  • Liaise and collaborate with external and internal Fidelity business partners to ensure the necessary legal documentation is completed in accordance with timelines as well as Fidelity policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the continual improvement of processes, documentation, and practices to achieve a more efficient workflow.
  • Assist with supplier sourcing, onboarding, and engagement as well as ad-hoc projects as necessary.

Education, Experience and Licenses

  • Law degree
  • Minimum 4 years post call experience in the legal or procurement department of a large commercial organization or a large law firm
  • Experience in contracts required
  • Member of the Law Society of Upper Canada
  • Prior mutual fund industry experience, an asset

Skills and Knowledge

  • Excellent contract drafting skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Superior communication, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills to collaboratively solve legal issues
  • Knowledge of corporate law
  • Flexible working style that is responsive to competing priorities
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite
