Director, Transformation and Strategic Initiatives


This is a Full-time position in Toronto, ON posted November 3, 2018.

What is the opportunity?

As Director, Transformation & Strategic Initiatives, you will be responsible for leading strategic initiatives for T&O’s leadership team, which arise throughout the year, and are not part of the technology transformation roadmap. These projects are typically confidential in nature, and will help to inform decision making for the technology leaders within the organization. You will have experience working with both business and technology executive leaders in addressing strategic challenges, defining clear approaches, frameworks and roadmaps, in addition to analyzing implications for the executive. The candidate will also develop strong relationships with the various groups to provide advisory services and assist in the advancement of strategic transformation initiatives throughout the year.


What will you do?

  • Lead projects for T&O SMT members to define to define roadmaps for strategic projects to enable a leading edge environment that drives business value for the enterprise. This includes defining the scope, approach, successful outcomes, stakeholder engagement models, solution alternatives and strategic roadmaps
  • Develop Target Operating Models aligned to Technology & Operations (T&O) strategic priorities with a focus on operations and technology transformation
  • Provide expert counsel and thought leadership to leaders on solution design, right sourcing, and optimization to advance priorities, as well as identifying the implications of centralizing and/or decentralizing people, processes and technology
  • Provide subject matter expert advice and solutions to T&O’s Senior Management Teams to optimize and drive business performance, to provide superior client experience, and to execute transformational initiatives with excellence
  • Work with partners across the RBC enterprise to identify opportunities for strategic alignment and collaboration
  • Identify and create plans to advance leaders along various maturity curves. Develop and provide oversight and strategic direction on project pilots to test and validate new ideas, concepts and technology
  • Develop content to effectively communicate with executive leadership teams
  • Define flexible and reusable assets / frameworks for the team to leverage, to ensure consistency in products, approaches and outcomes delivered for strategic initiatives. Engage with the T&O leadership team on a regular basis to identify opportunities to engage the team and have an impact, building a pipeline for the team


What do you need to succeed?


  • Undergraduate degree in business or similar
  • 7-10 years proven experience in leading and executing strategic projects and executive engagement / stakeholder management
  • Strong understanding of our revenue-generating businesses
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly assess complex problems, prioritize key issues, and focus on relevant facts
  • Ability to develop content and tailor messaging for an executive audience
