Learning and Privacy Manager


This is a Full-time position in Toronto, ON posted September 8, 2018.

The Role:

We are currently recruiting for a Learning and Privacy Manager, reporting to the VP Talent and Chief Risk Officer. This role will drive and deliver the learning initiatives in a fast-growing client focused organization and will interact with all staff and leadership across the organization.

The successful candidate will perform a range of functions, from assessing, recommending and implementing learning and privacy initiatives as well by extension enterprise risk initiatives to managing on-going efforts. These efforts will include working with a HRIS learning management system and external vendors and expert advisors. The role will be responsible for carrying forward all aspects of any initiatives as well as managing current and new projects.

The Accountabilities:

  • Investigating and presenting the alternatives available to attain certain objectives as well as various privacy and risk incidents;
  • Defining the goals, timelines, budget and roadmap for various initiatives;
  • Developing initiatives/programs with a hands on effort;
  • Documenting, maintaining and communicating to staff core subjects such as Medcan’s privacy and information security policies and procedures;
  • Managing and Delivering ongoing programs (e.g. new staff and existing staff learning programs, privacy breach management, documentation and reporting, internal privacy departmental assessments, new and existing vendor privacy and risk assessments) and communicating progress to key stakeholders;
  • Reporting and Evaluating the success of various programs (e.g. New employee learning, refresher learning, internal privacy assessments,); and
  • Monitoring any regulatory changes (e.g. PHIPA, CASL), understanding the changes and communicating to management and staff how the changes can affect Medcan

The nature of the role requires exceptional presentation, analytical and client service skills.The individual must be able to work well with others and to be a self-starter.

A background in employee learning is required and a knowledge of privacy legislation (e.g. PHIPA, PIPEDA) will be helpful.

Other desired attributes include:

  • The ability to independently deliver and manage programs and efforts with minimal supervision;
  • Strong organization, discipline and prioritization skills;
  • Detail orientation and a sense of urgency; and
  • The ability to interpret complex information, synthesize and then communicate it to others in a manner that can be easily understood and acted upon

The Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree;
  • 3+ years of work experience which involved working with employees in a learning capacity and experience with a learning management system;
  • Ability to deal with individuals sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically and professionally at all times;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and
  • A high degree of professional integrity, ethics, and confidentiality
