Position Description:

The Complex Care and Recovery Program is currently seeking a full-time , temporary Social Worker 2, to work in the Sexual Behaviour Clinic as part of the Talking for Change program. This position is part of grant related to the secondary prevention of child sexual abuse, involving service provision, and related evaluation, to non-justice involved individuals with a sexual interest in children and/or concerns about their risk to use child sexual abuse material or offend against a child. Reporting to the Manager, you will work closely with other clinical and research staff involved in the grant

The candidate will be responsible for providing anonymous support to individuals via telephone and chat modalities. This will require being able to evaluate a caller’s needs, assessing risks, assisting in single sessions and providing necessary resources to individuals engaged with the helpline. The candidate will also be responsible for the provision of in-person psychotherapy to non-justice involved individuals with a sexual interest in children and/or those concerned about their risk to offend. The candidate will engage in the assessment of clinical, risk, and protective factors via semi-structured interviews using established tools (i.e. Stable-2007, VRS-SO).

Candidates should possess knowledge of community resources as it relates to this client population, as well as experience with risk assessments (violence risk, suicide risk etc.) and, child protection/welfare. The candidate will be expected to contribute to program development and to the research and clinical activities of the grant. The incumbent will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and effective communication as well as complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This position is located at 1001 Queen Street West.


The successful candidate will possess a Master of Social Work (MSW) in good standing combined with a preferred minimum of 3 years of post-graduate, direct clinical (psychotherapy) experience in the provision of mental health and/or addictions treatment. As a registered member in good standing authorized to perform the controlled act of psychotherapy, the candidate must show proof of registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). You must be eligible for an adjunct faculty appointment with faculties of Social Work that have affiliation agreements with CAMH in order to supervise social work students. Supervision of psychotherapy to students within your respective discipline is considered an asset. Candidates working towards qualification to provide psychotherapy supervision of clinicians, or to the contribution to teaching of other health professionals within or across disciplines where permitted is also an asset.

Previous experience working with sexual offending behavior is a requirement. Must possess a strong knowledge of and ability to apply (in assessment and treatment) principles of risk management and crisis intervention and who have demonstrated knowledge of issues pertaining to sexual offending and pedophilia. Experience in at least one of the following: child development, violence prevention, trauma, healthy sexuality, or adult education is preferred.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required to work within the inter-professional teams and to engage with clients, family members, and community care providers. You possess demonstrated knowledge and experience in concurrent disorders, mood and anxiety, trauma and evidence-based treatments. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced interprofessional clinical environment are essential. Knowledge of community resources and discharge planning is required. You will also be able to meet deadlines, and have excellent computer skills and knowledge of technology and electronic platforms for communication (i.e., chat and text), along with excellent communication and writing skills is essential

Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language is considered an asset. Experience working with individuals from diverse ethno-cultural backgrounds is also required. The candidate must have competence to perform psychotherapy and experience utilizing Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) or other modalities. Preference will be given to those who hold certificates/certification. For Registered Social Worker incumbents not yet in independent practice who are required to practice with clinical supervision, CAMH, in its discretion, will pre-arrange this formal supervisory relationship with the clinical program as a condition of hire, based on capacity. You have the demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of paraphilia’s and are comfortable and confident speaking about sexuality, sexual development, and sexual abuse. You possess a commitment to sexual abuse prevention and recognize that reaching individuals with a sexual interest in children – confidentially – is an important prevention strategy

Salary Range: $36.04 – $48.57 per hour
