Recreation Therapist
Forensic General Unit D (FGUD), Forensic Division
Complex Care & Recovery Program

Position Description
The Complex Care & Recovery Program is seeking a full-time, temporary (6 months) Recreation Therapist to work on Forensic General Unit D (FGUD). Reporting to the Unit Manager, you will work with the inter-professional team to promote a holistic leisure lifestyle by contributing to the social, physical, spiritual, emotional and cognitive needs of clients. You will develop, plan, facilitate, schedule, organize and implement various therapeutic recreation programs. This will be accomplished by conducting assessments, developing individual recreation plans, completing patient documentation, skill instruction, development of program goals and objectives, and evaluating a variety of individual and group recreation programs. You will be expected to contribute to facilitate treatment groups and program development, research, and educational activities of the program. You will also provide supervision to students. You will also support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements. Your initial assignment will be located at 1001 Queen Street West and requires day, evening and weekend work.

Qualifications
The successful candidate must have a degree or diploma in Recreation or Recreation Therapy or a postgraduate certificate in Recreation and good working knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles and practices combined with one-year experience working as a Recreation Therapist. Eligibility for Registration with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario is required. The incumbent must have the ability to run groups, possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, and have the ability to deal effectively with a culturally diverse and complex clientele. Besides being reliable, cooperative and client-focused, you will be a motivated team player who shows initiative. Experience in working with individuals with mental illness as well as knowledge of the Ontario Review Board process is required. First Aid, CPR and Management of Aggressive Behaviour training is desirable. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.

Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.

Please Note:     This full-time, temporary (6 months) position is a part of the OPSEU bargaining unit.

Salary Range:   $30.76 – $35.44 per hour
