This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.

Responsibilities The Physiotherapist reports to the Manager of Rehabilitation Services.

Tthe Physiotherapist assesses, diagnoses and treats patients in a tertiary care setting who present with actual or potential impairment, pain, functional limitations or disabilities.

Physiotherapy assessment involves obtaining a detailed medical history, performing specific and standardized tests and evaluation procedures to determine a physical diagnosis.

Holistic treatment programs are developed using exercises, education, and manual, mechanical, electrical and hydrotherapy techniques to assist the patient in regaining and/or maintaining an optimal level of function.

The physiotherapist educates and communicates with other health disciplines, the general public, family members and caregivers with regard to health promotion, physiotherapy treatment and patient management.

The physiotherapist provides supervision and evaluation of physiotherapy students and supervision of physiotherapy assistants and aides.

The physiotherapist reports to a Health Services Manager and as a member of a clinical team, the physiotherapist collaborated with colleagues to determine team goals and objectives, participated in the evaluation of team effectiveness, and solves problems and shares responsibilities.

Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills are required.

Physiotherapists work on weekends in many areas of the hospital.

Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy from an accredited university Membership with the Nova Scotia College or Physiotherapists (Provincial licensing body) Computer skills (statistics input, word processing, Microsoft Office programs Annual Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation certification (BCLS) Ability to maintain good relationships with patients, families and co-workers Adaptable to variation in workload Require access to a reliable transportation Additional qualifications Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred Successful external applicants are required to provide a criminal record check (including Vulnerable Sector Search) to People Services before starting employment and assume any associated costs as a condition of employment PLEASE NOTE: Applicants will be screened based on above qualifications.
