Nurse Practioner

MEDCAN

This is a Full-time position in Toronto, ON posted November 22, 2018.

The Role:

Medcan is currently recruiting for a full-time Nurse Practitioner (NP) with a minimum of 5 years experience in primary care, urgent care or emergency medicine. The NP functions in an expanded and autonomic role within our Year-Round Care clinic in downtown Toronto. The successful candidate will possess a comprehensive theoretical knowledge base integrated with an extensive clinical competence and experience to provide comprehensive care for patients presenting to an acute care setting. The NP is responsible for the assessment, diagnostic evaluation and follow-up care of client in accordance with standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario. In addition to the provision of daily clinical care, the Medcan Nurse Practitioner will have the chance to practice in accordance with the Medcan philosophy of preventative health and living well, for life.

Position Goal: Deliver exceptional clinical practice and patient service experience

The Accountabilities:

  • Provide primary care health services for Medcan patients of all ages, both in person and by video
  • Examine patients, take their complete history and provide clinical guidance and recommendations
  • Evaluate the patients’ health, make diagnosis on clinical conditions, prescribe and administer medications, treatments and follow up care with internal or external specialists through expedited referral/same day test results
  • Educate, advise and empower patients on preventive health care and disease prevention
  • Provide counseling and support to patients on a wide range of health and lifestyle issues
  • Manage circle of patient care through dedicated in-house Patient Support Centre (PSC) teams of medical administrators, patient coordinators and nurses
  • Follow Medcan procedures for all documentation, timelines, coordination with internal follow up care teams
  • Adhere to standards of best practice
  • Ongoing learning for innovative, predictive, prevention diagnostics and wellness programs
  • CME, ongoing workshops and attendance at annual clinical update leadership offsite summits

The Requirements:

  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Hold a Masters degree in Nursing with a focus on Nurse Practitioner – Primary Health Care
  • Hold a certification in the prescription of controlled substances
  • Experience in primary care, urgent care or emergency medicine an asset
  • Exceptional and demonstrable interpersonal skills
  • Ability to respectfully and tactfully interact and collaborate with a variety of internal and external stakeholders from diverse backgrounds in a collegial, empathetic manner
  • Exemplary team player
  • Superior organization and time management skills
  • Comfortable with technological advancements including digital innovation and telemedicine
  • Knowledge and use of EMR systems
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word and Outlook

The role reports to the Senior Manager, Clinic Nursing, or as may be designated at 150 York. This is a full-time role that is scheduled 5 days per week for 40 hours/week.
