Position Description

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is seeking a Counsellor Therapist 2 for a full-time, temporary (6 month) position in the Problem Gambling and Technology Use Service. Reporting to the Manager, the successful candidate will provide assessment and treatment for those affected by problem gambling or other related behavioural addictions such as problematic use of interactive technology. You will provide support and service to those engaging in gambling and other behavioural addictions, as well as to family members. The position involves group facilitation, individual assessments, treatment planning and some case management both in person and on-line. You will ensure that care is coordinated where multiple services are involved. You will be able to work with clients from diverse populations; contribute to program development; provide education support and supervision to students and participate in the research activities of the program. Candidates must be capable of providing supervision of psychotherapy students, collaborating with faculties of social work on special projects related to the development of the social work field, contributing to the development of best practices unique to this field and also teaching to other professionals. Supporting continuous quality improvement is required. Workload data entry is a job requirement. You will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. Other related duties as assigned. Some evening hours are required. This position is located at 60 White Squirrel Way.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a Master’s degree in psychology, social work or occupational therapy combined with 3 years of clinical experience in the provision of mental health and/or addictions treatment, with a preference for one year in the area of Problem Gambling.  As a registered member in good standing with a regulated health care discipline, you must show proof of registration with the respective College (e.g. College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO), College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO). For Registered Psychotherapist, Social Worker/Social Service Worker, Occupational Therapist and Psychology incumbents not yet in independent practice who are required to practice with clinical supervision, CAMH, in its discretion, will pre-arrange this formal supervisory relationship with the clinical program as a condition of hire, based on capacity. Candidates must be capable of providing supervision of students (or working toward those qualifications) within their respective discipline, and participating in teaching of other health professionals.

Experience working with families will be a definite asset. Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively (verbal and written) are required. Demonstrated ability, knowledge and skills in addictions, concurrent disorders, group work, clinical assessment and treatment, harm reduction and brief treatment are required, as is knowledge exchange skills, the ability to provide online group and individual work, family therapy, and knowledge of community resources. In addition, you possess fundamental knowledge and application of the recovery model and other current best practices. The ability to provide culturally competent service to clients of diverse ethno racial and cultural backgrounds is essential. Additionally, knowledge of and experience with word-processing packages and basic computer operations is required. Knowledge of and experience with computerized client information databases would be an asset. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset. 

Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.

 

Please Note:       This full-time, temporary (6 month) position is part of the OPSEU Bargaining Unit.

Salary Range:      $36.04 – $48.57 per hour
