Position Description:

The Nicotine Dependence Service at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health is seeking a full-time, temporary (18 months) Community Health & Education (CH&E) Specialist with experience in the design, development and implementation of high quality continuing healthcare professional education, including online courses, web-based resources, and other learning and support materials. This position will support the implementation of the TEACH Project (https://www.nicotinedependenceclinic.com/en/teach) in addition to other knowledge translation and education projects.

Reporting to the Manager of the Nicotine Dependence Service, and working closely with the Director of Addictions Research & Education, the candidate will be responsible for carrying out the following activities to support the implementation of online and virtual trainings in health behaviour change, including tobacco use:

  • Conduct environmental scans and literature searches,
  • Research and write evidence-based content for online learning modules,
  • Create storyboards, develop interactive learning activities, and design course content and activities within online Learning Management Systems (including Moodle and Articulate)
  • Conduct needs assessments and identify training needs among professional stakeholder groups,
  • Engage patient and other learner/stakeholder populations,
  • Apply a scientific lens to the initiation and development of new training and education initiatives,
  • Lead discussions with subject matter expert advisory groups to support training development,
  • Support faculty engagement, and
  • Search for state of the art scientific knowledge and practices related to prevention, harm reduction, policy and cessation, as it pertains to tobacco and other nicotine use, such as e-cigarettes and vaping

The CH&E Specialist will help to develop training programs, educational and presentation materials, and implement a comprehensive evaluation plan for online learning. The successful candidate will also evaluate training modules on a variety of process and outcome measures to ensure continuous quality improvement, and contribute to the development of the department’s strategic priorities and deliverables, including publications in peer-review journals. The candidate will support a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This position currently operates under a hybrid work model, with in-person work located at the Queen Street site.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess a Master’s Degree in Education, Public Health, Social Science or related field and 3 years experience with the development and delivery of training and education programming. The candidate will have experience in instructional design, and knowledge of adult education, learning theories, curriculum design, and evaluation models. The incumbent will have demonstrated experience working within an online Learning Management System; experience using the Moodle platform is a strong asset. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience with the development of interactive learning objects, and using HTML code to build content into online Learning Management Systems.

The successful candidate will also have advanced knowledge and experience with university library databases and reference material search and retrieval procedures. The candidate must possess strong working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), social media platforms, reference management software and statistical software (SPSS, SAS). They will also have strong knowledge translation, dissemination and presentation skills. The candidate will also have superior interpersonal, communication (oral/written) and project management skills, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members, work with culturally diverse groups and also to work with minimal supervision. Candidates will be highly motivated, demonstrating creative problem-solving abilities. They must be able to work independently and effectively in an inter-professional team environment and have the ability to work effectively in a wide range of settings with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.

Please note: This full-time, temporary (18 months) position is part of the OPSEU Bargaining Unit.

Salary Range: $33.59 – $45.31 per hour
