Senior Electrical Engineer

– Transit and Rail-Toronto CH2M provides industry leadership in Transit and Rail Program Management.

For nearly a decade, we have served in a lead role with one of the most ambitious transit expansion programs in North America and the largest public investment in Canadian history. Together with our Partners, we provide a myriad of technical, strategic, innovative and programmatic solutions all for the benefit of the communities where we live and work. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Under general direction, provides traction electrification systems engineering activities for capital projects and operations and maintenance support.
Essential Functions
The following duties are a representative of the primary duties and responsibilities.
Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

Provides input to client design criteria, standard specifications and technical drawings for transit vehicles and systems.

Reviews consultant design submittals for conformance with agency design criteria and national and local codes.

Reviews contractor construction submittals and requests for information for conformance with contract technical requirements.

Supports testing and commissioning activities for vehicle systems and expansion projects and existing system upgrades and replacements.

Performs field surveys and inspections.

Participates in hazard and risk analyses, value analysis and schedule reviews.

Provides engineering assistance to Operations department as needed on matters concerning repair, maintenance, and modification to existing electrical equipment.
The minimum qualifications for this position are:Minimum Qualifications Performs root cause analysis and repair of technical issues and trends; assist team members as needed to resolve advanced technical issues.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

Preferred Qualifications

Education and Experience:
Bachelors Degree in electrical engineering, and ten years of transit engineering experience that includes project management, systems design, construction and/or operations support, preferably in a transit engineering environment; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Licenses or Certifications:
Possession of a valid Driver’s License.

Preferred Licenses or Certifications:
Ontario Professional Engineering license with endorsement in electrical engineering.

Required Knowledge of:
Industrial power distribution systems and rail transit electrical systems
Operational characteristics, services, and activities of traction power and/or overhead contact systems engineering projects and programs.

Application of principles and practices of electrical and traction power systems engineering, design, and construction.

Oversight and monitoring of the integration and design of traction electrification systems within a transit system.
