«Senior» Electrical Engineer-Automation & Instrumentation (Located in New Brunswick)

THE OPPORTUNITY

Our Client, CCNB INNOV – BATHURST) is seeking a dynamic experienced candidate for the position of Senior Electrical Engineer (Automation & Instrumentation) for its Advanced Manufacturing/Welding Centre.

The candidate will be part of a growing multi-disciplinary team (electrical, mechanical, metallurgy and welding engineers; instrumentation technologist; toolmaker; manufacturing technicians) that provides applied research and industrial services to SMEs.

Located at the CCNB – Bathurst, New Brunswick Campus, this research division values the multiple expertise of its team. They specialize in mechanical prototyping and in the development of mechanical processes or in advanced assembly technologies processes incorporating. The team can undertake research projects and industrial services of varying nature: some will require only a few hours of work while others, funded mainly by grants for research assistance, will take several months or even several years. The team strives to support the technological development of New Brunswick and Atlantic Canada’s metals industry by providing services to:

  • Mechanical process development
  • Prototyping and validation of concepts
  • Technology integration projects
  • Development of assembly processes

The candidate will report directly to the manager of the Advanced Manufacturing/Welding Centre and will be an active member of a growing team promoting the emergence of advanced manufacturing/welding practices and technologies within companies of New Brunswick and the Atlantic region.

The candidate will be asked to provide his judgment and expert analysis for the feasibility analysis, the risk analysis, the design, the development and implementation of automation processes, including robotic systems, automation systems, computer systems and control systems.

The candidate will have a proven track record of achievement in engineering leadership with the ability to develop and implement standard engineering practices and provide detailed documentation on project completion. The candidate will develop a thorough understanding of the organization’s business process, as the role is multidisciplinary. He will also work closely with colleagues through a number of project management functions.

THE WORK INCLUDES

  1. Identify new techniques, technologies and systems that can be used in robotics, automation and vision systems;
  2. Conduct feasibility and risk analysis studies in automation and robotics;
  3. Perform and update risk analyzes in robotics and automation at all times;
  4. Design and operate robotic systems paired with vision and automation process systems, with a strong affinity in the field of metal welding.
  5. Develop new processes, requirements and system specifications;
  6. Provide technical assistance (in the lab or at the customer site);
  7. Write and maintain technical documentation for developed systems, including but not limited to control procedures, safety procedures, work instructions, training materials, electrical and mechanical drawings, or any other necessary documentation;
  8. Works with internal or external suppliers to improve production efficiency, reduce process variability and ensure adherence to approved methods and quality standards by exercising discretion and independent judgment in assessing possible behaviors;
  9. Work with Business Development Officers to assist with the preparation of quotes as required.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  1. The work may be based in an office, laboratory or factory, depending on the nature of the organization of the client project;
  2. Visiting clients and working on-site is a common aspect of the work;
  3. The position may carry high levels of responsibility and may be stressful, particularly at a very senior level, where accountability lies directly with the quality control engineer, and with tight deadlines and within budget;
  4. Could be required to work evenings according to the needs of entrepreneurs and be willing to travel within the province, in other parts of the country and sometimes abroad;
  5. Knowledge of written and spoken English and French is required. Work environment is in French but most of the client base is English.

THE CANDIDATE MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE IN/WITH

  1. Perfectly (spoken and written) fluency in French and English for technical purposes;
  2. Excellent mastery of traditional editors’ tools (i.e. Antidote proofreaders, technical lexicons, etc.) and Microsoft Office 365 and Visio suites;
  3. 3D Solid Works and AutoCAD Mechanical Modeling Software;
  4. C / C ++ .NET Programming
  5. Robotic automation such as: ABB with ROBOT STUDIO, Kuka, Fanuck, Motorman, Yaskawa Electric, Mitsubishi, Rockwell Automation;
  6. Automates logic programming with the following products: Allen Bradley, Modicon, GE Fanuc, Siemens, Automation Direct, Mitsubishi, Omron, Aromat, Toshiba, others;
  7. HMI programming, touchscreens or SCADA, and the following product configuration: Citect Vijeo / Wonderware, Osifoft Pi, Rockwell, Intellution, Ge Cimplicity, Ci-Tech, Iconics, Siemens;
  8. Experiences in risk analysis and recognition in robotics programming is an asset.

 

 

The candidate must have a Bachelor of Applied Science in electrical engineering with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in the field, with the ability to certify technical specifications in New-Brunswick and be eligible for membership with the provincial professional association and that of other provinces or a combination of training and work experience deemed equivalent in a similar technical field.

 

An equivalent combination of training and work experience could be considered.  Applicants must state such clearly in their résumé and, if they are invited to an interview, they will have to support this equivalence by providing their credentials to the selection committee.

 

Overall, the ideal candidate must possess superior leadership and interpersonal skills to work in a rapidly changing work environment, as well as good writing and communication skills.  He/she must have the ability to work on several projects at the same time, be autonomous, productive, and willing to meet challenges of establishing a structure dedicated to meeting the needs of applied research and industrial services required by the industry.  He/she must be able to work under pressure, with tight deadlines and prioritization and  pay attention to details & prooritize.  He/she must also have a good record of performance and attendance.
