Tunnel Construction Technical Lead

Arup Canada is looking for a Tunnel Construction Technical Lead with experience in Tunnel constructability and strong knowledge of site and construction aspects and safety in design.

This role will also contribute to BD activities and assume PM functions for related projects.

The role will be based in our Toronto office, and will require co-location with the client in a project office and/or project field office.

Responsibilities : Tunnel Construction Oversight Responsible for the overall construction compliance of the tunneling related works.

Prepare Construction Oversight Guide and execute construction oversight.

Review technical construction submittals including constructability and means and methods for tunneling related works activities, RFCs, RFI’s, works schedule, risk Register, and others to ensure an acceptable process is implemented.

Conduct field oversight of construction to ensure the project remains on schedule.

Develop and provide schedule monitoring metric systems for reporting interim construction oversight progress.

Through direct field observations, ensure the works are performed in compliance with the approved design, execution process, quality control / assurance requirements, inspection, and testing programs.

Review site oversight reports and follow up on any reported instances of non-conforming works.

Verify corrective actions taken to correct non-conformances and identify opportunities to make improvements to the quality process.

Identifying the appropriate resources necessary to deliver the tasks above Ensuring that the team is delivering the work products necessary to achieve the project schedule Establish, maintain, and support integrated project Construction Compliance review committees.

Review project KPIs and review recommendations for corrective action plans.

Leading preparation and briefing of presentation packages for construction management meetings.

Qualifications : Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Mining engineering, or equivalent.

Over 15 years’ experience project management and construction management in tunnel construction gained both in the Americas and internationally, with at least one closed face TBM project.

10 years of experience leading multi-disciplinary teams in construction management for large-scale infrastructure projects in an urban environment, with majority of experience on tunnels.

Proven record in field oversight and delivery of tunnel projects.

Experience in working for both prime clients (Owners) and Design and Build Contractors in the delivery of major tunnel projects in the Americas and internationally is preferred.

Ability to communicate across all levels of project and client team organizations, with excellent team and client relationship skills.

Registered Professional Engineer or P.

Eng (preferred) or equivalent is desired.
