Estimator Construction

This is a Contract position in Toronto, ON posted May 20, 2018.

Job Description

Keys to Success

  • Estimating experience through education, Co-op placement and/or experience with a North American General Contractor
  • Experience working on ICI projects, particularly restauraunt, retail, and/or hotel

At BLT Construction, our Estimators coordinate all aspects of estimating for BLT projects acting as both Construction Manager and General Contractor.

Estimating Specific

  • Process contract drawings and specifications and make sure that the building is built in accordance with these documents
  • Prepare estimate documentation and execute the “bid” process with designated sub trades
  • Ability to prepare Class C Construction Cost Estimate at the end of Schematic Design Phase
  • Ability to prepare Class B Construction Cost Estimate at the end of Design Development Phase
  • Assist Project Manager in preparing a Cash Control Program and prepare a Cash Flow Forecast for the project
  • Update the Class B Construction Cost Estimate at defined inters of Construction Documents completion
  • Prepare a Class A Construction Cost Estimate at the end of the Construction Document Phase
  • Update Cash Flows forecast for the project
  • Develop methods of solicitation for Subcontractors and distribution of addenda
  • Prepare and prequalify criteria for Subcontractors and Suppliers as required by Project Manager
  • Review for completeness and coordinate all bid documents for the solicitation of competitive bids for the work to be performed by subcontractors
  • Prepare competitive analyses of Bids and relate this back to the budget allotted
  • Prepare and update the Construction Cost and cash flow forecasts in accordance with the Project budget
  • Ensure Contract Documents reflect Addendums issued
  • Maintain Trade Tender list by CSI division

Communication

  • Meet with Project Managers, Owners and Architects in a professional manner and have the ability to communicate effectively both the concerns and best interests of the company
  • Instil a positive working relationship with the Owner and Architect to encourage repeat business
  • Co-ordinate, manage and communicate with all subcontractors and effectively deal with problems such as delivery, labour, schedule and payment disputes
  • Understand BLT’s Occupational Health and Safety Policies and assist Site Superintendents and Project Managers in the execution of BLT’s policies
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of trade unions, their agreements and stipulations as it relates to pricing of work

Secondary Functions:
