Mental Health Therapist

Your Opportunity: The Lethbridge Child, Youth, and Family Addictions and Mental Health Clinic is recruiting for an Indigenous Mental Health Therapist (IMHT) position.

This position will work with our multidisciplinary team and community partners to promote and support the holistic wellness of children and families in our zone.

Working primarily with our Indigenous school partners-Kainai Board of Education and Peigan Board of Education, this position will support schools in providing mental health promotion and middle tier interventions in schools to support students in achieving improved social, emotional and mental health.

Working in the school, this position will support schools with developing and implementing universal programming; delivering group programming for high risk youth; observation of children and youth in the school setting; and participation in case consultation in order to provide suggested interventions to school teams.

In addition to this, the IMHT will also provide therapeutic intervention for children, youth and families who have identified mental health concerns.

Interventions may include brief solution focused strategies for children, youth and families; evidence based indigenous interventions; individual therapy; group therapy; and/or family therapy as well as case management and advocacy.

As this is a community mental health position, evening and weekend hours are required.

This position will be subject to consequential vacancy as per the joint working agreement with HSAA.

Description: As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to perform the restricted activity of psychosocial intervention utilizing a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties.

Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Classification: Mental Hlth Therapist CH/AS/NL Union: HSAA Facility PROF/TECH Department: SZ LETH C Child Clinic Primary Location: Melcor Centre Multi-Site: Not Applicable FTE: 1.00 Posting End Date: 15-MAR-2021 Employee Class: Regular Full Time Date Available: 25-MAR-2021 Hours per Shift: 7.75 Length of Shift in weeks: 2 Shifts per cycle: 10 Shift Pattern: Days, Evenings, Weekends Days Off: Saturday/Sunday Minimum Salary: $39.42 Maximum Salary: $52.36 Vehicle Requirement: Driver’s License, Vehicle Required Required Qualifications: Completion of one of the following programs: master’s degree in Psychology; master’s degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; master’s degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; master’s degree in Nursing and Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; Active or eligible for registration with the applicable regulatory college.

Additional Required Qualifications: Advanced experience/knowledge of Indigenous healing methods, culture and traditions.

Knowledge and respect for the diversity of Indigenous populations and communities.

Knowledge of Indigenous history, worldview, perspectives, and beliefs/values.

Specific knowledge of Blackfoot health perspectives is required.

Authorization to do mental health psycho-social intervention is required.

Preferred Qualifications: Equivalent education and/or experience will be considered.
