Candidates are invited to apply for the above positions to work at Villa Colombo Services for Seniors, a 391-bed long-term care facility, located in Toronto, Ontario.


The incumbent will report to the Executive Director.



The Manager, Food Services is responsible for the organization and administration of the Food Services Department to provide an efficient and effective food and nutrition service in accordance with established standards.

  • Responsible for the departmental budget; reporting variances in a timely fashion. Monitors purchases, inventory and expenditures ensuring the meet the facility needs.
  • Responsible for the human resources function in the department, ensuring all practices are in accordance with the organization’s policies, procedures, practices, and employment related legislation and the Collective Agreement.
  • Develops, establishes and administers an operational plan for food services including food production, meal service, retail services, purchasing and inventory controls.
  • Coordinates the food services functions to ensure the residents’ and clients’ clinical needs are met.
  • Responsible for effective communication with respect to the resident’s well being with the input of the resident, the family, and the Dietitian to ensure optimal service is provided including effective concern/complaint resolution.
  • Participates in the development of departmental goals and objectives ensuring these are consistent with the mission, vision and values of the facility and works to operationalize the established corporate strategic plan.
  • Establishes, implements and revises departmental policies and procedures for the provision of an effective food and nutrition service
  • Establishes, implements and monitors quality standards and benchmarks for areas of responsibility.
  • Ensures Health and Safety Standards are met in accordance with the MOL and the Health and Safety Act.
  • Ensures that the MOHLTC Standards are observed and the Long Term Care Homes Act and its Regulations as applicable are implemented.
  • Represents the department on various committees as assigned.


  • Diploma or Degree in Food and Nutrition Management or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a management position
  • Minimum 5 years in Food Services in Long Term or Acute Care
  • Must be a member of Canadian Society of Nutrition Management
  • Food Service Worker Certificate and/or Food Handlers Certificate an asset
  • Experience in Food Retail, i.e., working in and/or managing cafeteria services, including experience in food costing, profit/loss, promotion, etc., an asset
  • Knowledge of and expertise in one or more Food Service software support system, (such as ECPS/Sysco Synergy) required
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite software
  • Journeyman’s papers or a Cook’s diploma from an established College and definite asset
  • Italian language skills and/or knowledge of Italian culture, foods and customs an asset
  • Excellent organizational, observational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize, with a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to demonstrate positive and pleasant demeanor
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Ability to speak Italian an asset

A police reference check for the vulnerable sector, not older than 6 months, will be required prior to commencing. Only the successful candidate will require the completion of this check after the selection process is complete.
