Our client is looking for a bright, up-and-coming Controller to join their leadership team and help the company continue their rapid growth. Controller About the Opportunity Responsible for accurate and timely reporting on all financial activities of the organization Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, and provide meaningful financial analysis for executive decision making Oversee full-cycle budgeting, forecasting, planning and analysis Lead the year-end audit process, manage relationships with external auditors, partner agencies, and government funders Design and present information for donor stewardship, grant proposals, program evaluation, and other ad hoc reports as needed Ensure annual and regulatory filings are completed accurately and on time, e.g. T3010, HST, payroll, Imagine Canada, etc. Complete performance reports and audits as required by funding agencies in accordance with service level agreements Manage all financial operations, transactions and processes Oversee all banking, investment, revenue collection, procurement and payment procedures Manage cash flow and ensure sufficient funds are available to meet operating needs Develop, communicate and enforce sound accounting policies and internal controls Identify and implement process improvement initiatives to automate and enhance business practices and finance operations Sign weekly cheques within approved authority Work closely with the Director, Post-Secondary Affairs in budgeting and managing student scholarship payments, and ensuring compliance with CRA filings (T4As) Support the Vice President, Finance and the Chief Development Officer in maximizing available funding Build strong relationships with community partners, funding recipients and other internal and external stakeholders Work closely with the Director, Programs and 18 unique community partners in determining individual program budgets, analyzing financial results, and managing financial policies and procedures Provide consultation and expertise to internal and external clients by understanding their needs and collaborating on business-appropriate solutions Lead and engage the finance team in the seamless delivery of high quality, efficient financial services to their customers Manage and build strong relationships with external service providers and vendors Staff Management Responsibilities Recruit and retain qualified staff to meet department needs Manage staff performance in relation to goals established for the organization and department Motivate and problem solve with staff to meet individual goals and achieve team success Coach and train staff to guide them in achieving their commitments Identify and initiate required learning and development opportunities Promote a positive work culture that reflects the organization’s mission, vision and values Special projects and additional duties as required Three direct staff reports About You University degree and professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA) Minimum 5 years of experience in financial reporting and analysis, with excellent technical accounting knowledge (not-for-profit expertise an asset) Progressive leadership experience in a management role (minimum 3-5 years), with demonstrated ability to motivate staff and manage change Superior problem-solving and critical thinking skills, and proven ability to execute on complex project plans and manage multiple priorities Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to quickly master subject matter and apply it in various business operations Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to explain complex financial concepts to a variety of stakeholders Self-motivated continuous learner, always embracing change and challenging the status quo In-depth knowledge of accounting/ERP systems and reporting tools required (Great Plains and Management Reporter preferred) Advanced use and proficiency in Excel and other related MS Office 365 products required Overtime as required during peak periods Fluency in both English and French would be an asset Salary Range $100,000-$110,000/year
