Job Overview We’re looking for passionate innovators, creators, collaborators, and leaders who foster ideation to build the bank of the future and deliver solutions that meet our clients’ changing needs. As a Data Engineer, you will act as a Client Champion by joining CIBC’s technology team to ensure collection of information, accurate requirement gathering, data analysis, documentation of information, and presentation of findings advance initiatives and ensure project success. In this role you will be responsible for reviewing and cleansing data sets in order for the data scientists to manipulate them. You will be responsible for ensuring appropriate data is available and looking at new ways to pull data and different data sources that can be used. What You’ll Be Doing

  • Conduct analysis of client processes and functional or reporting requirements to prepare documentation and communicate the information
  • Conduct guided and self-directed research, typically using non-traditional resources to solve business problems
  • Develop, communicate, and implement plans for defining requirements complete with timelines, approach and deliverables
  • Review current data and cleanse to ensure appropriate data is available
  • Form a partnership and facilitate requirements gathering sessions with the business and IT teams in order to enable the capture of clear, concise, and correct requirements
  • Participate in gathering and analysis of relevant information related to business processes, functions and operations to ensure appropriate data is available
  • Help manage the data environment
  • Participate in an analytics community whose goal is to foster and share analytic approaches across the enterprise
  • Liaise with internal and external sources, colleagues, project managers and others to obtain, provide, verify and discuss information and best practices
  • Perform in-depth analysis of research information for the purpose of identifying opportunities, developing proposals and recommendations for use by management
  • Review backend data and look at ways to collect it differently than current approach
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment by information sharing and team cooperation

Are You the Right Person for This Role?What We’re Looking For

  • Passionate innovators, creators, collaborators, and leaders who are up for the challenge of building the bank of the future and delivering solutions that meet our clients’ changing needs
  • B.S./M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics or related quantitative field
  • Must have experience in working with large datasets including both structured and unstructured data and related tools (e.g., SQL,Hive)
  • Must have experience cleansing data
  • Must have experience gathering requirements, and analysis such as Use Case analysis
  • Must have experience with databases; preferable with MS technologies
  • Must have excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Must have strong problem solving skills and ability to break down complex problems and concepts and think creatively
  • Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must have strong relationship building skills
  • Values that align to ours – trust, team work, and accountability
  • Knowledge of the Financial Services industry sufficient to apply relevant issues and developments to work performed considered an asset
  • Experience working in a cloud environment considered as asset
  • Experience with data warehousing considered an asset
