This position is to ensure the accuracy and completeness of corporate accounting activities and internal and external reporting for the consolidated entity. This includes financial reporting and timely management of accounting policy and financial activities. For optimum success in this role, understanding the business, focusing on performance, and creating the new and different will be essential. You will be accountable for

  • Oversight of the Accounting process, which includes the complete and accurate maintenance of the books and records of the Corporation on a consolidated basis.
  • Supervision of the monthly close process and monthly, quarterly and annual account reconciliations and supporting documentation. 
  • Creating procedures to make the close and reporting processes more efficient and accurate for the consolidated entity.
  • Monitoring and assessing current accounting policies and whether they are continuing to be in accordance with IFRS, updating the accounting policies and ensuring consistency of application of corporate accounting policies amongst all subsidiaries.
  • Quarterly consolidated interim and annual IFRS financial statements and other deliverables for Board of Directors reporting.
  • Reviewing the monthly shareholder package and ensuring the monthly financials (balance sheet, statement of changes in shareholders’ equity and cash flow) are prepared on a consistent basis with the quarterly and annual financial statements. Includes consolidation of subsidiaries.
  • Responsible for quarterly tax provision for the consolidated entity in conjunction with Tax function. 
  • Managing the external audit process in conjunction with the annual financial statement production which includes co-ordination between the external auditors and various operational areas within the Corporation to ensure all audit-related concerns are addressed.
  • M&A – responsible for accounting analysis, pro-forma statements, and supporting due diligence process.
  • Support other areas within Finance: Forecasting and Planning – support the annual Plan and quarterly forecast process, assistance where required; Business support- offer accounting expertise; subsidiary – accounting assistance and advice.
  • Accounting of all Company Compensation programs (including, but not limited to, Mid-Long Term Incentive Plans, Executive Compensation, Payroll remittances, Pension Auditing & Financial Statement preparation)

Your experience includes

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business/ Commerce/ Accounting required 
  • Canadian Accounting Designation required (CPA) 
  • 7+ years of related work experience in a finance-related field
  • 5+ years leadership experience, with demonstrated ability to lead through change
  • Well versed in all areas of financial accounting, reporting, and compliance
  • Previous experience in the payment industry considered an asset
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Windows/ MS Office Applications (Especially MS Excel)
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX is an asset
  • Fluent in English (reading, writing, and verbal)
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) with proven ability to communicate technical and highly complex information
  • Excellent networking abilities with internal and external contacts
  • Strong business acumen with analytical ability to assess the business and drive the organization forward
  • Possess the ability to constructively deal with people and issues
  • Possess high level of initiative
  • Able to assess issues and implement solutions without being asked
  • Detail-oriented, and ability to lead tactically and strategically
